Valentine's Day in Paris: The Classic, Done Right
Some trips are cliché for a reason. Paris on Valentine's Day is the original romantic getaway, and it earns it every year: the city is low-key in February, the light is soft, and the restaurants that are impossible in June have a table if you plan ahead. The difference between a good Valentine's trip and a great one is almost entirely in the logistics.
The Route
From the U.S. East Coast, Paris is a comfortable overnight for a midsize or heavy jet. From the West Coast, a heavy or ultra-long-range cabin makes the trip nonstop. The advantage of flying private is not just speed, it's the shape of the day on both ends:
- Leave after work, wake up in Paris. A late evening departure lands at Le Bourget (LBG), the dedicated private airport, in time for a morning arrival.
- No main-terminal chaos. Le Bourget is Paris's private gateway; you're in a car to the hotel in minutes.
- Return on your schedule. A Sunday evening return means a full last day, not a rushed morning to make an airline departure.
Why February Works
Paris in mid-February is quiet by the city's standards. Museum lines are short, the great restaurants take reservations, and the winter light along the Seine is at its most flattering. It's cold, but that's part of the point: cafés, bistros, and hotel bars are at their coziest.
The Cabin Sets the Tone
A private cabin lets the trip begin on the aircraft. A catered dinner, a bottle of Champagne, and a bed for the overnight crossing turn travel time into the first night of the trip. For a Valentine's getaway, that's not a detail, it's half the experience.
What to Book Early
- The restaurant. The best tables for the 14th go in January. A concierge or the hotel can hold one.
- The hotel. February is low season, but the top rooms still fill around the holiday weekend.
- The aircraft. Transatlantic heavy jets are in demand over Valentine's weekend; confirm by early January for the best choice.
Paris doesn't need much help being romantic. It just needs a trip that doesn't start with a 5 a.m. airport arrival.
