Flying Private to Miami
Miami is one of the most popular private aviation destinations in the United States, with year-round appeal and a choice of airports that makes arrival flexible no matter where in South Florida you are headed.
The Airports
Miami International (MIA) offers the most options and is convenient to downtown and the beaches, but it shares runways with heavy commercial traffic. Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF) is the dedicated private airport, closer to many waterfront communities and free of commercial congestion. Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Palm Beach (PBI) are excellent alternatives depending on your final destination.
When to Go
The high season runs from November through April, when the Northeast turns cold and South Florida fills up. Demand and pricing peak around the winter holidays, Art Basel in early December, and spring break. Summer is quieter and more affordable, though afternoon thunderstorms are common and can affect scheduling.
What to Know
Because Miami has several capable airports, you can often find availability even when one is busy. Your operator will choose the airport closest to your destination that can handle your aircraft and timing. For waterfront destinations, OPF often offers the fastest ground transfer.
