Flying Private to Aspen
Aspen is one of the most sought-after private aviation destinations in North America, and the journey is part of the experience. The town sits high in the Rocky Mountains, and getting there by private jet is as much about the approach as the arrival.
The Airports
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is the closest, sitting just minutes from downtown Aspen and the mountain. Its location at altitude, surrounded by terrain, means the approach requires experienced crews and the right aircraft. Weather and weight restrictions are common in winter.
Eagle County Regional (EGE), about 90 minutes away by car, is the reliable alternative. It sits at a lower elevation with a longer runway, making it the preferred option when ASE is weathered in or when the largest aircraft are in use. Many travelers fly into EGE and arrange ground transfer to Aspen.
When to Go
Winter is peak season, with demand and pricing highest from late December through March. Summer is a quieter, equally beautiful window with hiking, the Aspen Music Festival and warm-weather dining. Spring and autumn are the quietest and most flexible.
What to Know
ASE has strict noise and weight limits, and not every aircraft can operate there. Your operator will confirm whether your chosen aircraft is approved for the approach, and will plan an EGE alternate when conditions require it. Booking well ahead during the winter holidays is essential.
